Allison McNickle
Video of Allison becoming a 53er
Bio: A native of Chicago, I came to Las Vegas to complete my trauma surgery training at UMC. I had been active all my life, rowing competitively in college and more recently cycling as my main activity. I soon realized that Las Vegas was not flat and Red Rocks was practically in my backyard. I began to hike and explore the area in my free time as a stress reliever.
Age: 35
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: I successfully navigated myself to the top of Gray Cap and found the 52 Peak Club card in the register. The idea of hiking to more peaks, both for the physical challenge and the scenery grabbed my interest.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: Dec 10th, 2017
Toughest Peak: Hmmm, there are definitely challenging sections on many hikes, but hard to name a single toughest.
Favorite Hike: Bridge Mountain, Rainbow Peak and Mount Wilson
How did you feel once you became a 53er: It was a great accomplishment and memorable day. I was proud to finish the deck in ~14 months which was my goal when I started. I am excited to re-hike my favorites and try new routes that I didn't experience previously.
Advice for new hikers: Accept the challenge! Start with the easier routes/peaks and get comfortable with scrambling and the group pace. Exercise between hikes to build stamina and endurance -- you will enjoy the hikes more if you are in better shape. Enjoy meeting the great people of Hiking Las Vegas !!
