I was raised and lived in Europe for 20 years. My parents were Italian immigrants and employed by a Swiss Diplomat. We lived in a castle and I spent most of my childhood chasing butterflies in green fields, riding horses, running with my dogs, and exploring the forest surrounding the castle. I left Europe in 1994 and landed in Maui where I spent the next 5 years. There I attended an intense fitness course for 6 weeks and became a fitness instructor and a personal trainer. After graduating, I enrolled into Massage Therapy School. I moved to Las Vegas in 2000. As an opportunity opened to work for the military, I won a bid as a contractor for Nellis Air Force Base.
At that time, I was a fitness specialist helping airmen and retired military with their exercise program regimen. I taught various fitness formats including indoor cycling, yoga, pilates and muscle conditioning classes (I still teach).
Another opportunity presented itself in the same building to provide massage therapy for the military so I decided to take on another position.
In 2014, my massage therapy office was moved into the new Warrior Fitness Center where I still practice. I still continue to pursue my passion for fitness and provide Senior Adult Personal Training Services in Sun City Summerlin with a focus on Strokes, COPD survivors and people with disabilities.
How long have you been hiking?
I started walking through fields and exploring as a very young child, curious about all plants, insects and animals. In school, twice a year, summer camps and ski camps were mandatory. All free time was spent outdoors.
How long have you been a member of the 52 Peak Club?
I joined the 52 Peak Club in 2015 after talking to my friend Ian Barlow, who is a leader for the 52 Peak Club. I always wanted to go discover and explore these red mountains but not brave enough to go on my own. Since I didn't know anyone, I did my research on club hikes and joined through Meetup and Facebook. I have earned 13 cards as of Feb 19th, 2018.
Which hikes do you like the most? Fortification Hill, Turtlehead Peak Jr, the beauty of Griffith Peak in October.
Are you a slow, medium or fast hiker? Slow at a start, but now after my 13th card, I am able to pick up the pace and not get out of breath! I prefer staying in the back and watch how the elite hikers get on the rocks, studying the position of their hands and feet. It has helped me.
What’s the best thing about the 52 Peak Club? The new friendships, the support, the words of encouragement, the positive energy from all the elite hikers, and all the inspiration. That anything is possible and that you can not let fear control you. One peak at a time, getting out of my comfort zone has helped me with my fear of heights. I get a tingle in my feet when I see a hike I have missed or pictures from others that have achieved it. I stare at my 52 poster every morning when I wake up.
How did you feel the night before your first hike with the 52 Peak Club? As I do now, I am excited and can't wait to be connected with nature again.
