Chris Brehaut
Bio: My wife and I moved to Las Vegas on March 27th, 2021. I am a Professional Engineer and Engineering Manager and love life experiences. No matter what I’m doing I give it my all and take things to the max.
Age: 43
Why did you joined: When we moved to Las Vegas and saw the mountains from my window I wanted to explore them. Since covid hit I didn’t go to the gym and stopped bodybuilding. Once we unpacked, well just the first few boxes, I climbed Lone Mountain and Frenchman Mountain via the access road and soon typed into google Hiking Las Vegas. The club page came up and I saw all the mountains it climbs and wanted to get started. I thought it would be great to have friends to hike with and leaders to show us the ways to the peaks.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: March 13, 2022
Toughest Peak: Its hard to say as I enjoy multi peak hikes that are the longest and toughest. If I had to choose one, I will say Mummy Head to Toe which is a five or seven peak hike. Last Summer I did Head to Toe with Mummy Vista and MJ Peaks and the weekend after did Head to Toe again.
Favorite Hike: Bridge 360. Starting at Pine Creek trailhead then heading all the way to the back of Fern Creek and up to Bridge Mountain was spectacular. This route was tough, but the scenery and climbing are gems of Red Rock. From Bridge Mountain we descended to a hidden forest then down a halfpipe and thru some amazing scenery on the back of Bridge Vista then up to the peak. We then went over and up to Bridge Point and then back down to the Pine Creek and to the car. This was the day I became a 53’r on Bridge Mountain.
I wanted it to be an epic weekend so on Friday my friend and I climbed Griffith Peak alpine style, Saturday was Eva’s Tower for my 51st card and on Sunday we did Bridge 360. This is the kind of weekend I fell in love with and are my favorites.
How did you feel once you became a 53er: The journey of becoming a 53’r is filled with many great conversations and tough hikes. It is a happy time for me, and I feel accomplished and so happy that I built all these skills and am comfortable with exposure and climbing.
Advice for new hikers: Fall in love with the journey and be consistent. Success loves speed and hiking every chance you get will quickly build confidence, skills, and your fitness level. Soon you will crave more and there is plenty here in Las Vegas.
We have a spectacular variety of hiking conditions. There is Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Mt. Charleston and my new passion Alpine Style climbing in the snow and ice. I never hiked before the 52 Peak Club but because I put all my energy in with no holding back, I quickly became a 53’r and also climbed Griffith Peak And Mummy Mountain in the snow. You can do it too.
We all help each other thru tough spots on hikes, you will never be alone. Between the great leaders and advanced scramblers on the hikes you will join, we will have your back and support you on the adventures.
