Christopher Begnoche
Bio: Grew up in Southern Nevada being an Air Force brat. Started to discover the outdoors when I was allowed to join Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts. My first hiking adventure was Anniversary Narrows area which was also either my first or second campout in Boy Scouts. Use to hike alone most of the time until I discovered the Hiking Las Vegas Meetup Group in late April of 2012 and haven’t looked back since.
Age: 30
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: The camaraderie of hiking in a group and for the geocaching opportunities.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: Nov 2nd, 2013 (48th person to become a 53er)
Toughest Peak: Holiday Peak.
Favorite Hike: White Rock Hillls Peak via Surprise Canyon, Juniper Peak, & Turtlehead Jr. Double Slot Route.
How did you feel once you became a 53er: I felt glad to have completed the entire deck with so many great hikers around me when I got to my final peak.
Advice for new hikers: READ THE HIKE DESCRIPTION!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t get on a hike that you know will be too tough for you at the pace the hike will be at. Also, just because you think you’re a 4 out of 5 or even a 5 out of 5 at the gym does not mean that you will be a 4 out of 5 or a 5 out of 5 on hikes. Being a gym rat does not mean you’re a strong hiker too if you have never done any major hikes before. Get to know the various organizers. In time you will learn which one(s) you like to go on hikes with and what pace works best for you. That is one thing about this group that is so great. If you’re an experienced hiker or never stepped foot on a dirt path before there is an organizer and pace perfect for you, the individual hiker.
