Josef Nuernberger
Bio: I am a Chef from Austria who works on Cruise Ships around the world and just recently moved to Henderson. I consider myself lucky enough to have this opportunity to travel around the world and yet find time and passion to find a Rock or Hill to climb. I have hiked Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Huashan in China and many peaks, and hills around the Globe.
Age: Age is only a number youthful at heart is what matters most.
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: It gave me an opportunity to meet some new Friends while doing what I like most and at the same time have a goal to look forward achieving and get better at it.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: May 31st, 2013 (31st person to become a 53er)
Toughest Peak: I would say the Five Peak Hike in Mt. Charleston since it just happen and was not planned at all. Griffith, Mt.Charleston, Lee Peak, Mummy Mountain, and Cockscomb.
Favorite Hike: Any longer hikes.
How did you feel once you became a 53er: The completion of the deck means the achievement of a big goal for me. Now the question is, what's next?? Relieved and excited. I felt like I had accomplished a lot in a very short time. I’m glad to have met so many diverse, experienced, and knowledgeable people along the way who I truly consider friends. Many, many Thanks to Branch and all the other leaders who plan, schedule, and keep all in line to make it happen in the first place and all other experienced hikers for willingly sharing their knowledge. Also thanks to all of you fellow hikers that I have had the opportunity to share the experience with. I may have finished with my last card, but looking already forward getting back from the Ship and do it all over again!!
Advice for new hikers: Never give up. It gets easier with each and every hike. Start with the easier hikes, gain strength, confidence, and skills, before moving to the harder ones.
