Bio: I was born in Iowa City, Iowa, and as they say "Once a Hawkeye, Always a Hawkeye".  I moved to Vegas in 1987 and taught for CCSD for 35 years.  I always loved the outdoors and doing athletic stuff and hiking was a natural fit.  I started hiking with the Sierra Club.

Age: 61

Why did you joined:  I thought it would be a great way to see more of the beautiful Red Rocks, and learn new hikes, and have some new adventures.

Date Completed all 52 Peaks: Dec. 2, 2022

Toughest Peak: Holiday Peak.  One of those ropes almost got me.

Favorite Hike:  I enjoyed Ice Box Peak and the challenge.  I also really like Crabby Appleton.

How did you feel once you became a 53er:  It felt relief that I had accomplished all 52.  I also felt proud that I had been able to do all the hikes with only a few bumps and bruises.  I also felt thankful for all of the new people I was able to meet.  There are some great people on the trails.
Advice for new hikers: Start with the easier hikes.  Ask the people you hike with about the leaders. Do they go too fast or too slow for your ability, will they help you, teach you?  Don't be afraid to go on the tougher hikes once you have some experience, and don't be afraid to ask for help getting up or down.  Everybody, especially some of the great guys I hiked with, will be willing to lend you a hand or a knee.  HAVE FUN.
