Maggie Christofferson
Bio: I grew up in the high desert of Southern California and moved to Las Vegas in my early 20’s where I’ve resided and built my life for the last 22 years. I’m a mother and grandmother to a beautiful daughter and two very spirited grand daughters. The outdoors have always spoke to me whether it was the mountains, desert or ocean and I’m at my happiest while enjoying what Mother Nature has to offer.
Age: 44
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: I always enjoyed hiking and used to hike alone a lot and a friend suggested I join meetup where I joined other hiking groups and discovered its way more enjoyable hiking with groups of like minded people. I had heard of the 52 peak club from a fellow hiker and organizer for the group, Twisted Jeff Stang who persuaded me to climb my first peak and join the club. After climbing and standing on that first summit “Bonanza Peak” I was hooked.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: 5/6/2018
Toughest Peak: I would have to say Mescalito. My first Red Rock hike and my first encounter with slab and scrambling. It was terrifying and exciting all at the same time
Favorite Hike: I really don’t have a favorite. I like them all, each one holds a multitude of memories.
How did you feel once you became a 53er:Confident, accomplished and ready for the next challenge.
Advice for new hikers: Take your time, hike at your own pace and start off on the easier hikes. Build your endurance by doing fitness hikes and other activities. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and don’t get discouraged. Most of all HAVE fun! This is your journey and your time to shine in the spot light of a major accomplishment. The memories you make the friends you meet will last a lifetime.
