Majda Isrep
Video of Majda receiving her 53er Plaque on North Peak in Red Rock Canyon
Bio and Age: My name is Majda Isrep, I'm 40 years old. I'm originally from Montreal, Canada. I currently live in Fresno, California. I love hiking & backpacking in my time off. I joined to hike here in the winter/spring when my usual hiking territories are full of snow.
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club? I joined the 52 Peaks Club because it's a group that does fun hikes/scrambles (yeah, I didn't know about the scrambling when I joined, but I love it!), and this club has such an active group that there's almost always at least one hike just about every day of the week. For me, living out of town, I'm happy to drive to go hiking, but it made it worth my while that I could drive here and get in a few days of hiking. Once I'd joined, I found that the group was made up of great people, friendly, helpful and fun, and yeah, I found I loved scrambling. So, I keep coming back again, and again. Even when it's not my season to come here, though I get in a different kind of hiking, and it's so beautiful, I don't mind missing Red Rock, but I miss the people of the 52 peaks club. This club is now in my blood.
Date Complete All 52 Peaks: My first peak was East Peak Jan 17th 2014, my 52nd peak is North Peak April 2nd 2016.
Toughest Peak and Favorite Hike: Hard to say which is my favorite hike. I love all of the Red Rock hikes (except White Rock Springs Peak, I don't dislike it, I just don't love it). But, other than that I love all of the Red Rock hikes. I don't know that I could pick a favorite. Toughest hike, hmmm... I don't know that there's a hike I think too tough to do again. I could do any of them again (and have actually done quite a few of them several times). The Charleston hikes take the wind out of you on the way up, and some of them scare me on the steep down scree, but I don't know that I'd rate them as the toughest. I did Global, Windy, Black Velvet, Hidden and Bridge Mountain from the back. Maybe after I've done them from the front I'll know which is my toughest hike.
How did I feel after I became a 53er? on the one hand a little elated, that I'd completed all 52 peaks when I never thought I would at the beginning and never really set out to do it. I just came to go hiking w/good people and have a good time. On the other hand, I felt a little sad that I didn't have this thing to strive for. But then again, I do have those hikes to do from the front, and really, I'll want to repeat Red Rock hikes so long as I'm physically able, so, not too sad :)
Advice for new hikers: I guess the only advice I have for new folks, is remember, you're doing this for fun. Do what works for you, and what's fun for you. Stay active in any way you like to stay active, cause if you don't use it, you lose it. Have a great time achieving your goals and staying active, but most of all have fun and be safe :)
