Mike Eureste
Video of Mike receiving his 53er Plaque
Bio: I am a retired pipefitter from Northwest Ohio, moved to Las Vegas in 2012. My wife and I have 3 grown children back in the Midwest, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grand children. Prior to moving to LV we RVed the US from coast to coast, thru Canada to Alaska to our southern border.
Age: 62
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: My wife was encouraging me to find a hobby that did not involve the couch when I saw a movie called The Way, about a pilgrimage hike from southern France to Santiago De Compostelo, Spain, 500 mile, I was inspired to prepare for this journey, however I had never hiked before, overweight and no clue as to what I needed to do. I joined a few hiking meetups and kept hearing of this 52 Peak Club. My fellow hikers said they led some tough hikes. I had to see for my self, so I went on my first 52 card hike led by Dinorah, I joined at my first peak. 11 months later, Dinorah led my 52nd card hike. I leave for the Camino De santiago hike in the middle of May ,2015.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: 2-20-2015
Toughest Peak: Mount Wilson
Favorite Hike: Eva's Tower/Holiday
How did you feel once you became a 53er: It was a great sense of satisfaction, but the greatest reward was all the friendly people I have met that have shared so much knowledge about hiking, fitness, eating and kept encouraging me along the way.
Advice for new hikers: It is very important to build your way up to the right level and pace of hike you are physically prepared to accomplish, it will all come with time. Buen Camino!
