Rick Marshall
Bio: I was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Nevada in 1987.
Age: 63
Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: I have always enjoyed learning new skills and pushing myself - I always loved being outside and doing physical activity. I have been a backpacker most of my life and saw this as a way to hone old skills, develop new ones and stay fit. Additionally, it was a great way to meet new people with similar interests
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: Feb. 06, 2022
Toughest Peak: Not sure which individual peak was the toughest, but, Bridge Vista & Bridge Point were tough both physically and mentally
Favorite Hike: Most of the Mount Charleston series.
How did you feel once you became a 53er:
Pretty darn proud of myself - A sense of real accomplishment and satisfaction that I’m part of an elite group of people to become a 53’er. I’m so grateful to all the club members and leaders that inspired me in some way over the past two years.
Advice for new hikers:
Visit hikinglasvegas.com and read about the hikes. When a hike is posted, pay attention to what the leader has to say in the description. The 52 Peak Club hikes are very challenging and are meant to push you to be stronger, both physically and mentally. Start with the lower cards to determine your fitness level. Put in the extra work on your own to build your strength and stamina.
Never give up - you will gain confidence, see results that you never thought possible!
Most importantly: don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Communicate – Communicate – Communicate!
Listen to the leaders on the hikes – they are there for you!
Set Goals - Crush Them - Repeat!
