Susie Nichols

Bio:   I was born in the middle-of-nowhere Illinois to a couple of free-spirited gypsies and have lived all over the country from Montana to Florida. Turns out, I’m a bit of a free-spirited gypsy myself. I’m a graphic designer and I work from home. I have hiked and camped all of my life and just can’t seem to get enough.
Age:  49

Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: When I moved to Vegas a few years ago, I was exploring the area by hiking alone, but it didn’t take long before I wanted to do longer and more challenging hikes. I needed people to hike with and I needed to know where the best hikes were. I found both in the 52 Peak Club.

Date Completed all 52 Peaks: 3/16/2016

Toughest Peak: Indecision Peak

Favorite Hike: Bridge, Bridge Vista, Oak Peak, First Creek Peak, Terrace Canyon Peak, Rainbow, Holiday, White Pinnacle, Pine Creek, Mummy’s Toe, Juniper – it’s really hard to narrow it down!

How did you feel once you became a 53er
: Happy, relieved, confident, and proud! It’s a really big deal to me to have climbed 52 of the best peaks in Las Vegas and it is the most fun I’ve ever had.

Advice for new hikers:  Get to your meeting place early and be prepared to hike – that includes being well-rested and well-fed. Have an extra layer to wear and the essentials in your pack along with plenty of water. Outside of your hikes, workout at least a couple of times a week and put a little extra focus on cardio and upper body strength training. Hike with as many different leaders as you can. Be friendly. Don’t complain. Don’t start drama. Don’t give up. Be willing to help whenever and wherever possible. You want to enjoy your hikes, not just endure them. These tips helped me with that. It won’t take long and you will be amazed not only with the places you will go with this club, but also with the camaraderie you find here.
