On December 10, 2017, Allison McNickle became the 142nd person to climb all 52 Peaks with the 52 Peak Club. She had to climb over 120,000 feet and hike 300 miles to accomplish this feat.
Allison is not a stranger to accomplishment. She is a trauma surgeon at UMC in Las Vegas, NV. Though busy as you can imagine she became a 53er (hiker who has climbed all 52 Peaks) in a little over one year. Allison is a native of Chicago and has been active her entire life, rowing competitively in college and more recently cycling and hiking. Her favorite peaks are Bridge Mountain, Rainbow Peak and Mount Wilson, all in Red Rock Canyon, which is just 20 miles west of Las Vegas, NV. Upon becoming a 53er she said, "It was a great accomplishment and a memorable day. I was proud to finish the deck in ~14 months which was my goal when I started. I am excited to re-hike my favorites peaks and try new routes that I didn't experience previously." The 52 Peak Club motivates hikers to conquer their fears and gain self confidence by hiking the best peaks around Las Vegas,NV. To learn more about the 52 Peak Club, click here.

Mummy’s Toe is a favorite among local hikers. Here are some highlights from the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Saturday, 6-6-2015 Leader Shane led four members on a multiple peak hike this morning, Mummy's Head Loop which included Mummy's Nose (10 Spades) , Mummy's Forehead (Jack Spades) and Mummy's Chin (King Spades).. Mummy's Nose is one of the best hikes in Mt. Charleston. Each peak has spectacular views with each step along the ridgeline, the views get better and better. No photos are available for this hike. White Rock Springs Peak: Leader Chris led one member to the peak. This is a good hike to introduce people to scrambling. There are plenty of options to do more scrambling if you want. The peak is visible from the trailhead. This hike is good almost year round. If you don't mind an early start, because it is short (2-3 hours), it is appropriate for summer as well as spring and fall. Be at the entrance gate by 6am. No photos are available for this hike. Mummy's Nose: Leader Dinorah led five 52ers to the summit. This is one of the best hikes in Mt. Charleston. With each step along the ridgeline, the views get better and better. This means you won’t miss a thing and your memories can be shared with others when you return. Fletcher Peak (8 Hearts): Leader Ian led four members to the summit of Fletcher Peak with a stop at Raintree. This is a trail hike all the way to the peak. Fletcher Peak has some of the best views of any summit in Mt. Charleston. There are great views of Mummy’s Toe and Cockscomb Ridge from the trail. It's a real treat to visit Rain Tree any day of the week. Raintree, the fabled old bristlecone pine that is thought to be the largest and oldest (some 3,000 years) tree in the Spring Mountains. Mummy's Toe (9 Spades via Mummy Springs): Leaders Richard and Rob, both 53ers, led ten 52ers to the summit of Mummy's Toe. This hike began at North Loop Trailhead, this distance is 8 miles up and back, elevation gain is 2,591 feet and the elevation at the peak is 10,925. Mummy’s Toe is a favorite among local hikers and the 52 Peak Club. This route has changed since the addition of the trail above Mummy Springs. The new route is much better than the old route and easier to follow. The views from the summit are fantastic. Oak Creek Overlook, Red Rock Canyon (4 Clubs): Leaders Sara and Brett led three 52ers to Oak Creek Overlook on Saturday, 6-6-2015. This hike will become a classic scrambling route in Red Rock Canyon. Although this is not a high summit, it’s a wild route with great vistas from the top. Sunday, 6-7-2015 Macks Peak North, Mt. Charleston (9 Hearts): Leaders Rob and David led four 52ers to the summit of Macks Peak North. Although loose in parts, there’s some climbing and a pseudo knife-edge traverse to the summit making this a hike worth doing. Charleston Peak (Ace of Spades): Leader Jimmy led 16 members to the Summit of Mt. Charleston to celebrate Natalie earning her last card with the 52 Peak Club. Charleston Peak is approximately 18 miles from Trail Canyon Trailhead. It is the highest peak in southern Nevada, and one of the most popular hikes in the state. It is the 8th most prominent mountain in the U.S. and also the most prominent mountain in Nevada. Charleston Peak provides desert dwellers with a dramatic change of scenery (big trees and alpine meadows) and a taste of strenuous high-altitude hiking. White Rock Hills Peak Southern Route, Red Rock Canyon (4 of Hearts): Branch led eight 52ers to White Rock Hills Peak Southern Route when the temperature dipped down into the70s. Branch Whitney led 11 hard core hikers today to Eva's Tower. This is one of the most improbable routes in all of Red Rock. The summit looks technical from all angles. Eva's Towers offers a little bit of everything, rock scrambling, a cave like slot, a little bit of stemming with many twists and turns to challenge you. Great vistas from the summit add to the enjoyment of this fantastic route. This peak is named after my first hiking partner, Eva. The weather was beautiful today and perfect for rock scrambling in Red Rock Canyon. To make this a round trip route we descended Gully 3 which included a rappel so that we did not retrace our steps through Gully 2. This route takes you to places of beauty and wonder. The hike started at approximately 7:30 am and we were back to our cars before 12:30 pm. Branch Whitney led a small group of members of the 52 Peak Club on a two card hike to Ice Box Peak and Bridge Mountain descending the North Peak decent route to Rocky Gap Road. Beautiful weather and strong hikers made this nine hour challenging hike a memorable experience. The route is in good shape. Don and Dinorah (LaExploradora) Arambula led two separate hikes to Windy Peak, The Backway, on 4-3-2015, to accommodate 30 members of Meetup Hiking Las Vegas to Windy Peak. Assistant Organizer Jimmy Logan led 19 hikers to Fortification Hill via trail. Jimmy reported that the moon rise and sunset happened at the same time. The weather was comfortable with a cool breeze. A good time was had by all.
Four hikes were posted on Meetup Hiking Las Vegas on 3-8-2014. Assistant Organizer Jimmy Logan led nine hard core hikers to Oak Peak. Oak Peak is a seven mile round trip Class 3 hike with an elevation gain of 2,233 feet. The route travels through the south fork of Oak Creek climbing nine dry\wet falls, however, this time of year because of all the recent rain (and some snow was found on north facing spots on this hike), there were a lot of workarounds due to the amount of water in the canyon. Fun was had by all! Just ask Chris Wehner who went for a very cold dip! It heads NW up a steep section of sandstone, and then heads north to the peak. Descent is through the north fork of Oak Creek Canyon. Assistant Organizer Bill Suiter led ten hard core hikers to Pine Creek Peak on 3-7-2015. |
