A weekend of many fun hikes offered by meetup hiking las vegas / 52 peak club 6/13-14/20156/16/2015
Read about all the hikes led on Saturday and Sunday: Kraft Peak (Calico Basin) (2 of Hearts): On Saturday, Leader Chris led six 52ers/53ers on a hike to Kraft Mountain that included four rappels. Learn from the best and most knowledgeable Double the trouble @Elephant Loop and Turtlehead Jr from Sandstone Quarry (Calico Basin) (2 of Diamonds): Leader Sara led four members to Turtlehead Jr. Mack's Peak to Mack's Peak North, Mt. Charleston (8 Spades or 9 Spades): Leader Brett led four 52ers to two peaks today on Mt. Charleston. Mack's Peak is a good introductory mountaineering hike. It’s a half day hike, not too long. Fantastic views in all directions are seen from the peak. Mack's Peak North - Although loose in parts, there’s some climbing and a pseudo knife-edge traverse to the summit making this a hike worth doing. No photos are available for this hike. McFarland Peak, Mt. Charleston (10 of Hearts): Leader Kelly led eight 52ers and one 53er to the Summit of McFarland Peak on Saturday. High Clearance Vehicles were needed for this hike. This is the best route to the seldom-climbed McFarland Peak. Trailhead is Gravel Road 570 (Not marked). The views along the summit ridge of this route are truly awesome. Sunday, 6-14-2015 North Peak, Red Rock Canyon (6 of Spades): Leader David led 12 52ers to the Summit of North Peak via Rocky Gap Road. High Clearance Vehicles were needed for this route. North Peak is the second highest peak in Red Rock. A fantastic view of Red Rock and Las Vegas is seen from the peak. From North Peak it’s a few hundred yards to an awesome overlook into Ice Box Canyon. The views will blow you away. White Rock Hills Peak, Red Rock Canyon (4 of Hearts): Leader Jimmy led two 52ers/53ers to the summit of White Rock Hills Peak. Mummy Mountain, Mt. Charleston (9 of Spades: Leader Dinorah led 15 52ers to the Summit in celebration of Bradley Roberts' last peak. We also want to welcome and congratulate Virginia Sawicki who earned her first card at the summit. Mummy Mountain is the second highest peak in Mt. Charleston. This is the perfect beginner’s mountaineering route. It will give you a feel for real mountaineering. If you like this hike, you can shoot for hikes in the High Sierra. From the summit of Mummy Mountain you can see Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas, and Lake Mead. Mummy's Toe, Mt. Charleston (9 of Spades) : Leader Oz led 13 52ers/53ers to the Summit of Mummy's Toe. Mummy’s Toe is a favorite among local hikers. Comments are closed.
