Meet the Leaders for the 52 Peak Club
Meet Liz Hyatt
Since joining Meetup in May 2017, Liz's passion for hiking has flourished, guiding her journey toward becoming a leader for the 52 Peak Club. Over the past several years, she has earned widespread admiration for her dedication and thoughtful leadership, inspiring fellow hikers to reach their fitness and hiking goals.
When asked why she hikes, Liz said:
As an active kid of the 1980s growing up in Southern California, I spent a lot of time outside with friends playing softball, volleyball, riding our bikes, hanging out at the beach, swimming, and other mischief that Gen X was known for. My motto has long been "nature is a gym, and membership is free!" The outdoors is an inexpensive option, even for a 10-minute walk, and, because I enjoy walking, it was a natural segue into hiking. The reason I hike is for fitness, as I benefit from the green space, which recharges my mental & physical well-being.
Liz's advice for new hikers?
Reflecting on when I started hiking full-time, I began with shorter trails that were easy to navigate, either solo or as part of a group, while volunteering my time on the trails at Spring Mountain Ranch (2016-2017). That experience helped build skills and confidence. Next, footwear and apparel are essential. I invested in hiking shoes and came to appreciate moisture-wicking clothing, making the most of my experience by taking in the scenery, listening to nature, and expressing gratitude for excellent health and the opportunity to hike in general.

Why did you join the 52 Peak Club: I have always enjoyed learning new skills and pushing myself - I always loved being outside and doing physical activity. I have been a backpacker most of my life and saw this as a way to hone old skills, develop new ones, and stay fit. Additionally, it was a great way to meet new people with similar interests.
Date Completed all 52 Peaks: Jan. 02, 2022
Toughest Peak: Not sure which individual peak was the toughest, but enjoyed the challenge of all of them.
Favorite Hike: Most of the Mount Charleston series.
How did you feel once you became a 53er: Pretty darn proud of myself - A sense of real accomplishment and satisfaction that I’m part of an elite group of people to become a 53’er. I’m so grateful to all the club members and leaders that inspired me in some way over the past year and a half.
Advice for new hikers: Visit hikinglasvegas.com and read about the hikes. When a hike is posted, pay attention to what the leader has to say in the description. The 52 Peak Club hikes are very challenging and are meant to push you to be stronger, both physically and mentally. Start with the lower cards to determine your fitness level. Put in the extra work on your own to build your strength and stamina.
Never give up - you will gain confidence, see results that you never thought possible!
Most importantly: don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Listen to the leaders on the hikes – they are there for you!
